Kudos, Congratulations, and Way-To-Go to
Doug Swisher

Doug Swisher and the late Carl Richards were inducted into the Fly Fishing Hall Of Fame at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum

If you know or have met Doug, he would never share with you that he received this well-deserved award.  He's just not that kind of guy.  He is thoughtful, creative, and amazing fly fisherman - his ability to cast 40 feet with a soda straw is something I'll always remember from one of his casting classes.  Plus, he has great flies and fly tying products.  He's a true innovator!  But... he would never blow his own horn.  So we feel the need to do a little horn-blowing for him.

Here's just a little about Doug Swisher, from the Hall of Fame program:

  • Swisher and Richards introduced a series of artificial flies with a natural silhouette, called the "no hackle" dry fly, which immediately proved more convincing to wary, wild trout that the "classic" bushy-hackled fly

  • Swisher and Richards published Selective Trout in 1971 and set the collective trout fishing world on its collective ear... hailed by Joe Brooks, in Outdoor Life magazine, as "the bible for a whole new generation of fly fishermen."

  • Swisher and Richards went on to publish: Fly Fishing Strategy, Tying the Swisher/Richards Flies. Stoneflies, Emergers, Back Country Fly Fishing in Salt Water, as well as the 30th anniversary edition of Selective Trout.

  • Carl Passed away in 2006 at the age of 73.  Doug Swisher continues to be one of the pre-eminent experts in fly fishing...He continues to fish (all over the world), write, develop innovative fly-tying materials and teach advanced fly casting techniques based on the simple "2P Premise" - Pattern & Presentation.  He has written and performed seven videotapes, which display his expertise and his natural instructional talent.

We sure wish we had been there to show our support.  Here's a picture of Doug, as he received the award.  Thanks, Sharon, for sharing your photo with us!
